By creating miniscule punctures in the skin at varying depths and speeds, it causes your body to produce more collagen in the target areas. Collagen is a protein that helps create a smooth texture and restore the skin’s original elasticity. As you age or your skin experiences other injuries, the levels of collagen that your body produces in those areas will naturally start to decline. What To Expect
Before a microneedling procedure is started, a topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area so the patient will have no pain. Once the cream has sufficiently numbed the area, the doctor will use the microneedling tool to create tiny prick marks in the skin. The procedure will often take less than 30 minutes and some of the marks will be so small you won’t be able to see them. To help calm any irritated skin following the treatment, a serum or moisturizer can be applied before you leave the spa.
